Republicans and Immigration Reform
The Republican position on immigration reform is yet unclear. Some (very loud) elements of the base staunchly support deportation of Latin American immigrants in the country without permission. Others in the party support an expedited naturalization process for those already inside the country. The latter of these two views - if adopted by the party - could help ensure the GOP would retake and retain the House and Senate for the foreseeable future, while the former stance could be the one thing that could possibly derail the widely anticipated GOP landslide victory in the upcoming mid-term elections in November.
Real Vote on Obamacare Takes Place this November
What House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats in the House and Senate do (or don't do) regarding President Obama's healthcare reform proposal (commonly referred to as "Obamacare") is immaterial as to whether or not the bill (assuming one is passed) is ever actually implemented. Bernard Madoff's Alter-Ego... Francisco d’Anconia?
Does Bernard Madoff have an alter-ego? The question has become relevant in the wake of Madoff's Ponzi Scheme, which defrauded billions from investors. He was recently sentenced to 150 years in prison for his massive scheme which took money from new investors to pay old ones while no actual investments were being made. When Madoff's pyramid collapsed, the investors were ruined.
Francisco Domingo Carlos Andres Sebastian d'Anconia is the character from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" who among other things, was known for his savvy investments and his great money-making abilities. He pilfered many a wealthy customer by persuading them to invest into the San Sebastian Mines, a copper mining project in Mexico named for one of his Spanish ancestors.
Could it be that Madoff had motives other than greed? Is there more to coincidence between the striking similarities between the Madoff scandal and the mining misadventures of the protagonist of the magnum opus of Bernie Madoff's close friend Alan Greenspan's close friend Ayn Rand?
